How to distinguish between real leather and faux leather?(2)

In last article, we have introduced smell and backside 2 simple ways to distinguish between real leather and faux leather, today let us continue to learn the other ways.

3. Take a detailed look at the surface.
Natural leather comes with smooth gloss, tiny pores, and fine lines.
Artificial leather is extremely glossy, but there are no visible pores or fine lines.
The recent faux leather processing technology is impressive. Distinction is very difficult. However, it is not an easy task to copy the pores and fine lines of real leather exactly the same. Genuine leather also has smooth glossiness, but faux leather tends to come with unusually high shine or no shine at all. If you look closely at the surface, you will be able to find the benefits.

4. Trying fold it.
When fold real leather, it will fold gently in a half and does not wrinkle easily due to the firmness on its curve, but artificial leather does not have any smooth curving or elasticity.

5. Burn it with fire.
Faux leather curls inwards even when it barely touches flame, catches fire easily and smells unpleasant, unlike real leather that doesn’t burn that well.

6. You can decide with its weight.
Jackets are particularly easy to tell. Real leather is heavy, whereas to faux leather is light. Lambskin is significantly lighter than cow leather, but faux leather is even lighter than both. It may even be lighter than fabric jacket, too.

7. Drop a droplet of water on it.
Shown in the left side is real leather, with the water absorbing into the leather after approximately 10 seconds, and the right side is the faux leather completely non-absorbing the water and letting it slide right out. Therefore, true leather absorbs water (except for waterproof leather), but artificial leather does not absorb water.
